A wonderful experience. I learned tactics and ways to relate to animals, and on the part of the family I have not a single complaint to say about it. It was my first experience with Worldpackers and I would recommend this place to anyone who is genuinely interested in riding horses and helping to keep order in the place (it looks like a paradise). I'm just going to miss Wicklow and thank you Chris for giving me good advice and letting me learn from my mistakes.

I stayed at the farm for a month, the place is beautiful and very peaceful, and my work consisted of painting and maintenance work, and occasionally helping out in the stables. I also had the opportunity to ride horses and look after these wonderful animals. All the hosts were very friendly and Christine always helped me with anything I needed. If I had to put a downside it would be the house where I stayed, as the heating is not very powerful and on cold days the house can seem a bit colder than normal and the bathroom is often not heated. In any case, I got a really good first experience.

There were pros and cons to the experience. The pros- they had boots I could borrow, you get €50 a week for food, and you can take horses out on treks if you have experience riding. The two cousins that live upstairs in the house are lovely as well. Things I wish I'd known: the current manager of the farm was very controlling and micromanaged a lot of things I did, but wouldn't tell me exactly how to do tasks until I had done them wrong. The other volunteers and I never knew who was leading tours until Christine was or wasn't on a horse. I did hear the n slur on a couple different occasions.

I stayed at the farm for a week instead of a month. I arrived in the evening and had to take a taxi to the property because the hosts couldn't come pick me up at the bus station. I was housed in the cabin we see in the pictures, but it was very dirty, with no blinds on the windows and no lock on the front door. There was also a missing lightbulb in the toilets, and the cabin was overall badly heated. The work on the farm was nice but intense. The horses were lovely, but I wish I had more clear directions and a better communication from the hosts. There was no cultural exchange.

I am grateful for the opportunity they gave me and accepted in this volunteer program. The place is really beautiful, and being in contact with all the animals even though I didn't know the number of horses I had to take care of, and the communication was not the best, is a heavy and demanding job. So I recommend this volunteering to those people who really have experience with horses and have excellent English so that they do not have problems combining with the tasks to be done, otherwise I think it was a nice experience.
