When I stayed at Mary's the hostel, I used this time to improve my English, my knowledge on American culture and explore Chicago, its museums, parks, shows, libraries, the amazing landscape etc. I recommend this volunteering program if you have similar goals. You will have to work at the house for around five hours, but you can use the remaning time as you wish. Our host Mary usually takes two volunteers so you will probably have company and help to perform your duties. If you wish, you can contact me for more tips to enjoy your stay even better. You can always talk to Mary for any diffic

This place was my home for almost 3 months! I take with me a lot of new experiences and some really good friends. It was challengin arriving in the middle of winter because it was my first time experimeting that cold, but I started to use to it so fast. The house is so cozy, in a nice and safe neighboorhood, and all the guest I met were amazing. Mary is great, fun, easy going and patiente person, I learned a lot during my time here. I'm going come back soon, I hope so :)

The experience in the hostel was fantastic. I learned a lot of things in a very cozy atmosphere. I had contact with local people and travelers from other countries. The area is peaceful, save and have easy subway access to downtown Chicago. Mary is a wonderful person. Very sweet, dedicated and attentive. She teaches you everything you need and always makes sure everybory feels comfortable and well. I miss her already! It's an honor to have been a volunteer at the hostel :)

We are so happy to stay two months in Chicago! Mary was a great host for us! We have known other volunteers, we could practiced our Spanish with them, Mari from Mexico and Dani and Javi from Chile! We've had a lot of work to organize the back porch, cut the huge branches in the backyard, designer a new vegetable garden: with garlic, onion, chives, tomatoes and Basil, kill the weeds in the front yard, cut trunks and mow the lawn! We loved the spirit of the Guest house! It's a centenary house, but so cozy and comfortable. For that reason we've decided to stay one more month! Thanks Mary!

I'm glad you could both stay for 2 months. It was a lot of fun having you and your wife here. You helped in so many ways. I hope you enjoyed your time here as much as I did hosting you.

Mary was an amazing host! She made sure that the volunteers were satisfied with their experience. The work hours were nice and can be flexible when needed. I never felt overworked and was able to go for a run almost every day without feeling tired. During my time, most guests were up early which was great for me. Catching up with them in the mornings made it feel like they were long term roommates. I am looking forward to coming back one day. Thank you Mary!

I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay.
The guests really loved getting to know you. And one wanted to hire you to help her move and organize her new home in Chicago!
Taking initiative my it so easy to host you. I've used all your suggestions. Initiative is the #1 thing a host looks for in a volunteer.
You're welcome back here any time!
Happy sailing! ⛵⛴️
